The utter depravity of the merchants of death

I have just been reading about the case of the arms company that has won legal costs against the family of a woman who was killed by the bullets that the company supplied, and which plans to donate the proceeds to "gun rights" groups. The case originated from the "Batman killer" shootings by James Holmes in Denver in 2012. Holmes, a schizophrenic, opened fire on a cinema audience watching "The Dark Knight Rises", killing 12 people and injuring 70 others. The family of one of the victims, 24-year-old Jessica Ghawi, sued the company that sold Holmes 4,000 bullets plus tear gas and body armour, without making any checks into his background. However, for reasons best known to the Colorado legal system, they lost their case and the judge has ruled that they should pay the company more than $200,000 in legal costs. The company clearly has absolutely no shred of conscience or shame, and seems almost proud of its ability to enable a mentally disturbed man to slaughter innocent people. Their decision to donate the money to groups including the National Rifle Association defies belief. How can these merchants of death be so devoid of common decency?

4000 bullets? Nobody thought to check on this guy? Nobody thought to say "We have a waiting period for major purchases of this nature? Come back in 3 to 6 months." (Buy some time to check on this guy.) Nobody thought to report something suspicious to a law enforcement authority? So what if you reported and it was just a suspicion and you had no proof of his intent because you couldn't read his mind! GUESS what he might be thinking!! Just take a wild stab at it. Is there where it will end? Because I wouldn't stop with the judgment of the Colorado legal system. I'd fight it all the way to the Supreme Court. This mean war!

Those are the facts as reported in the London Times newspaper. Apparently this was arranged by mail order and the buyer didn't even have to show a driving licence!

Gobsmacked. Speechless. I hope they appeal the judgment. That's just outrageous.

Jeez, these lawyers might be educated but they're dumb in the extreme. What an evil thing to do.
