So Good They Named Us Twice

I find it mildly confusing that we effectively have two usernames here on Mylot. First we have our actual typed name and then we have the name that hyperlinks with the prefaced addition of a @ similar to that used in creating a Twitter name.
My name is my actual name, Arthur Chappell with the link name being the same, decapitalized and spelt as one word arthurchappell with the @ in front of it. Others have totally different names, so it can be confusing in notifications and e-mails when I wonder who the new contact is but then notice it’s just the other name I’m picking up on instead of the one that got my attention before.

It does appear odd and this is the only site that I know where you are allowed to have a username and a display name.
In my case it has proven to be quite useful. I used the name of Asylum here when I first joined around 9 years ago, but since then I have used several sites and adopted the name of Koalemos.
I realised that many members who migrated here from other sites may not know the name Asylum, so I added the display name in order to highlight to some previous friends that it was me. You knew me as Koalemos on another site Arthur, so Asylum would have been meaningless to you.

@arthurchappell The site will always recognise me as Asylum because like all other sites a username cannot be changed.

I find it easier for friends to find me if I don't use pseudonyms

I usually identify people using their name (real name or not) and not username, so if they change the name I might not recognize them easily.

yeah, I'd be fine with a single user name.
