How to be a world champion

It is not given to everyone to excel at a major sport and aspire to become a world champion in it. Only a tiny number of people become world champions at boxing, tennis, golf, and so on. Or even chess comes to that! However, there are a number of semi-official world championships that are held every year in various places and which confer the title of world champion on the most successful participants. How about wife carrying, for example? Or worm charming, or black pudding throwing, or pooh sticks, conkers, bog snorkelling, tiddlywinks ... all are possibilities, and you get a real trophy if you come out on top (in the case of bog snorkelling, not coming out on top is not such a good idea!). Perhaps there should be a world championship that does not yet exist but at which you would stand an excellent chance? There are so many possibilities!

I'm sure there are many, but this discussion reminded me of a joke. The United States is the only country that would hold a world sports championship and not invite other countries.

Are you referring to the World Series by any chance? In that case, what about the Miss Universe competition - there are not too many entrants from the neighbourhood of Alpha Centauri!
