If you have the time and money, would you go for a world cruise?

I, for one, will go for a world cruise, but I will not want to do it all at once. I probably will take a cruise that covers one continent for one year, and arrange for another cruise for another part of the world. i think to live full time on board a cruise ship for one whole year is enough to drive me crazy.

I have been on one cruise and I am satisfied. I have travelled to several foreign countries. I prefer that to several cruises.

You can take those cruises that allow you to go on shore practically every day. Some of the most popular destinations include Alaska, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and Norway. These are the places where cruise ships are cheaper than inland tour.

@allknowing If your doctor says you can travel, then you can travel. Many cruise ships have cabins meant for handicap, and the cruise ships are built in wheelchair friendly way. You can pretend to be more invalid that you actually are, so that you get to book such big room with the same price as the smaller one.

A cruise ship is like a floating hotel. The way it is structured is to bring you to a port early in the morning, and you go on shore for a whole day, after that return to the ship to have dinner, and sleep. The ship sails and reaches the next port early the next morning. There are some days when the distance between two ports are great, so these days the ship sails, and it is known as sea day.

I love to travel, but prefer to do it little by little, by myself. Now I choose a place and go there for some time.

Most of us have to work full time, and we have limited vacation leave, so there is no chance of taking a year off work to take a world cruise. By the time we return, we may not get use to the full time work routine again. It is really for the rich and the retirees who have planned years for it.

@scheng1 I have the time as I am retired. But, besides de money, I love shorter vacations and like to choose my own destinations each time.

I'm not cruise guy but more of flight type. but yes if given chance I;d go for both. i think either way travelling the world would be really good thing to do. but it'd cost a lot if you ask me and that is not going to make things easy.

There is a concept known as Fly, Cruise, Fly. That means you fly to a place to take cruise. In the case of Alaska, you have to start from Seattle or Vancouver, so you have to take a long flight to reach there. After that, you cruise for a week or more before you fly back. It is definitely costly, so it is a dream of a lifetime for most people.

@scheng1 That sounds like a good to me. I am sure there are many people who would want to do the same.

A world cruise IS doing it all at once. We have done a lot of different cruises to many parts of the world, but that doesn't constitute a world cruise. Cruising is a wonderful way to take a holiday, the longest we've been on is 32 days.

That is true. I doubt I will like to stay on board a cruise ship for more than a year just to complete a world cruise. I think I will get sick of the little cabin after staying in it for a few weeks. Anyway, that is a dream for the future, after I have retired from full time work.

@scheng1 I don't think they take a whole year, but anyway a month was long enough for me.

One of my dreams is to cruise the world! I wouldn't mind living on a cruise ship and seeing and exploring the world. I have been on so many cruises over my lifetime that it seems like second nature to me. Interestingly, with all the cruises I've been on, there is much of the world I haven't seen yet!

It is impossible to see the whole world even if you take a world cruise. You just have the comfort of letting the cruise company makes all the arrangement, and you get to see part of the world. I read that there are many people negotiating with the cruise ship for a year stay onboard.

I love to travel, but I am not much attracted by cruises, I think that if I had the time and money, I would take a long ride, across many different places, but, my myself. I would take a cruise, maybe, to experience it, but I don't think in a long ride in one. I prefer to travel by myself.

Actually cruise ship is meant for independent travelers who do not like to travel in a group. When you are on board a cruise, you decide on what to do and when to do. When you go on shore, you can travel on your own until it is time to board the ship again.

I think if I start to take cruise for 10 days a year, I will probably cover the whole world after 20 years. I think Alaska is a very nice place, and I hope to visit there one day. Antarctica is too remote and too expensive to reach.
