What are the better ways to change a bl & wt image in to colour one?... Is there a better way in Photoshop to convert a black & white image into color other than just selecting the area and fill with color? Simple steps are invited from your side?

This is something that I have never tried, but selecting areas to colour would certainly not work. Photoshop would simply replace that section with plain colour, whereas a photograph requires shades and variations to create reality. The result of replacing colours that way would appear more like a drawing than a photograph.

Using the 'Fill' tool would certainly result in flat areas of colour but there are various tools which will retain the Lightness values of the selected area and apply them to the required Hue. Depending on the application being used, the tools may be called 'Colorize' or 'Adjust Hue' or something similar. Another (and better) way would be to use two layers. paint colour selectively on the new layer and then merge the two layers using one of the filters available (such as 'Multiply', 'Add' or 'Screen')

@owlwings That is a fascinating approach and would certainly work well. I have seen these options in Adobe Photoshop, but never actually used them for anything myself.

@Asylum It's worth playing with. I use Gimp which works very like Photoshop (but is free!) and I have to say that, though I quite often use layers to modify photos, I've never tried colorising a B&W image, so I can't say which filter would be appropriate to use when merging the layers.
