Woman Glues Eye Shut

Do you think you would ever make a mistake like this? A woman in Florida got some yard debris in her eye while a neighbor was using a leaf blower. We all know how much dust and trash a leaf blower kicks up! In pain the woman, Katherine Gaydos, screamed for someone to get eye drops from her purse. Instead of bringing her eye drops, the person brought super glue and poured it into her eye! Gaydos' left eye is glued shut. COMPLETELY glued shut! And has been for a week. Surgery to fix they eye had been scheduled, but was postponed due to lack of funds. Unemployed and uninsured, Gaydos could not afford the surgery! According to one source she was getting her surgery on October 9th, and should keep the vision in her eye. There are a few things scary about this story. Someone was so freaked out in the situation that they could not (or did not) take the time to tell glue apart from eyedrops. She was harmed not out of her own actions but those of her neighbor, doing something that people innocently do all summer long. And there was a chance she could lose her eye because she could not pay for an emergency medical surgery. Meanwhile I'm wondering, "How many women carry super glue in their purse?" That person must have hated her so much or just plain stupid. I think he or she should pay for the surgery cost. The reason some women carry super glue is to glue their shoes back when the shoes come loose. It happens to many women before. The shoes come apart, and they have to carry their shoes in their hands and walk barefoot.

Interesting. I wear sneakers, never heels. I've never had to glue my shoes back together.

I feel so badly for her and I guess the poor neighbor feels horrible too. I hope she raises the money to get the surgery.

The article did say she was supposed to receive her surgery on the 9th. Hopefully she got it, and hopefully she still has her sight in that eye.

I would double check before I gave something to someone else.

I think I would too. If I'm putting something in someone's eye I would really want to be 100% sure what it is.

That poor woman, but the terrible thing is that she can't have treatment because she can't afford it. In the UK everyone gets treated on our National Health Service.

Yeah. Healthcare is kind of screwed up here.

We weren't there when she got the debris in her eye. It could be that she was screaming bloody murder and the person helping was so overwrought that she mistook the one for the other. Yes, she should have looked at the bottle first, and why she didn't we don't know. It sounds like she had the surgery already.

Sadly, finances are what drive a lot of missed medical care these days.
