can we ever be free of gun violence

we have a unique culture of violence in the United States, our police force isn't militarized like some other cultures but they have access to powerful weapons mainly because the citizens do too. I'm all for protection and hunting but do automatic weapons like uzis count as hunting gear. we are always shocked by a mass shooting, in a school, in a mall or movie theater or anywhere it occurs. The cry goes out for gun control and inevitably the next reaction is finger pointing and rants about violence in inner cities. the real issue is that we can't control these type of things. many mass shooting are done by those that were not insane at the time they purchased a gun or they had access to guns from relatives, no one has esp so the ranting's of individuals on social media go ignored until after the tragedy happens sort of like how Nostradamus's quatrains seem to fit years after a event happened. Is arming everyone the answer, would having someone slightly saner around to stop mass shooters a good idea or would more guns create more of these situations. we already are aware of situations where irresponsible gun owners have killed teens they thought were suspicious in there neighborhood or shoot those in a car because they were playing music too loud or shot burglars robbing a neighbor instead of waiting for the police. the good thing is most citizens don't have a gun the bad thing is most citizens don't have a gun?

I'd like to see more people armed, but fewer people armed with implements of mass destruction.
