All Is Fair In Love And War. What a stupid saying that is. Since when did soldiers or lovers ever fight fair?
Seduction can be ruthless and love, as Pat Benatar sings, can be a ‘battlefield’. It is no accident that Eros fires arrows into a lovers heart just as an archer would at Agincourt.
The quest for love attracts spies – people willing to find out your true feelings and what you like so a potential partner can get intel for use in impressing you. Young lovers rush in gung ho and brave. We veterans proceed with caution.
There are stalkers, and undesirable partners to fight your way past, and courtship ritual can feel like a minefield. Past relationships have left me walking wounded. If a relationship goes wrong the nuclear family goes nuclear and as poisonous as radiation, leading to mutually assured destruction. But if I think you love me, I will undoubtedly surrender to your arms.

In my perspectives I kind of understood this saying as if people cheat, karma befalls upon there path one way or the other. One heart might be taken for granted but life has its way to get back to those who play cruel at heart.

As far as extended metaphors go, this is a beauty. Great article Arthur, and although I've been very lucky in love, I've seen enough to know there is truth in what you say.
