Milk-less mashed potatoes

Neither of us drink or use milk, therefore, we rarely have milk in the house. If we are planning a big dinner and I know we will have mashed potatoes, then I buy a pint of milk. But lets say on the spur of the moment I want mashed 'taters...what to do, what to do?
Instead of milk I used chicken stock or you could use vegetable stock. It won't make the potatoes creamy, but it will give you enough liquid to get them well mashed and lump free, although a few lumps in my potatoes doesn't bother me!
Someone suggested keepin milk in the freezer for a situation like this. I tried that one time. The milk didn't taste right and the consistency was off.

I like mashed potatoes with just butter and spices, no milk. It's not too dry if you don't drain out all the water. But they have to be mashed very well. I hate lumps!
