Magic Eye Pictures

Does anyone remember the magic eye pictures fad of the late 1990’s? These involved a picture that had another image concealed within it that you could see like an optical illusion if you looked at the image in a certain light or angle. A forest scene might have a silhouette of a fish painted under it, or vice versa. There were all sorts of instructions about how to squint, move the book slowly closer or away from the eyes, etc. Some were deemed easy and others harder. I have to confess that I never found a single one, but others seemed to spot them quickly. Newspapers usually carried them daily and book collections were published and then the craze just vanished overnight, at least in the UK. Arthur Chappell

some I could see, some I could not. It wasn't exactly what I thought, it wasn't in the photo, it was sort of above the photo, like a floating 3d image, I saw the first on at the library after a long day of reading when my eyes were tired and a little crossed, and then I got it. I have to cross my eyes and let them slowly go back into focus and sometimes the image will just pop out at me, but not on newsprint, no way the details are printed clearly enough on that kind of a format

@arthurchappell or a tad fuzzy, and that would totally mess things up

@Jessicalynnt yes they need to be accurate or the images will just be lost to everyone

I remember those, you had to defocus your eyes in order to see the hidden image. I was never able to do it deliberately. My eyes would often go out of focus in lectures and if someone had put one in front of me then I'm sure I would have seen it, but the opportunity never arose.

Maybe I should have tried them after a night in the pub
