"Political Outsider"

It bothers me to see politicians running for office with the argument of their opponent is a "career politician" while they are a "political outsider." Matt Bevin, who's running for governor in Kentucky, has been running such ads, touting himself as a "political outsider" versus the "career politician" Jack Conway (currently Kentucky's attorney general). Here's the problem with Bevin's ad (and why I don't like this claim in general): in 2014 Bevin also ran for office (U.S. Senate, losing in the primary to Mitch McConnell) as a "political outsider." Hillary Clinton, the former First Lady, former U.S. senator, and former Secretary of State who ran for president in 2008 and is running again, claimed in an interview earlier this month that she is a "political outsider." How many times do you run for political office before you're no longer an "outsider" to politics?

What I would like to know is, what does political outsider really mean. I think it is just another term for stuff in government. Unless it means that one that considers themselves as an outsider is not part of the group that runs the house and or senate. Meaning, if the republicans have majority in the house and senate, then those others might be considered political outsiders. And visa versa. That is just my theory.

I think what they're trying to claim is that they aren't part of the "problem" that "career politicians" are perceived as being. I think that's part of Donald Trump's "appeal" right now -- he's not a politician. The common belief is that we're sick of "politicians," so these politicians running for office (as I pointed out in the discussion, two or three times or with a long career in political offices) are trying to claim "I'm not part of the problem." It's like that joke: how can you tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving!

@FourWalls I like that joke. Trump is a disaster. And a dangerous person. He would be the destruction of this country if he ever got into office. He has no idea how to run a country. And he is nothing special. I do not consider him a normal regular citizen. He is too greedy. I guess with all this political bull, we just have to wait and se what happens this time around. I know for a fact that people in this country, in general, are totally fed up with politics as a whole. And no one want to pay attention anymore. The government, I think, is starting to loose it's grip on the american people.

These political outsiders long to be political insiders.
