I used to love to hike through the woods and take nature shots. I joined a group of deer hunters, planning on taking some good photographs during the fall hunt.Climbing a mountain to the top at sunrise was not my idea of a good time. I rested on a rock, while the others went on to follow a deer trail, into the woods.I sat on the rock and heard some shouting and firearms being shot in the distance, as I rested on my rock.Suddenly a beautiful deer with a five point rack appeared to the right of me, stopped to stare at me and then moved on past me, I was so startled to see this big buck, so close to me,and unafraid, I almost forgot to take a picture.I did take several pictures, and he walked on down the mountain into the trees. A few hours later, the hunters appeared, disappointed. they did not get their deer.I did not say anything, as I knew they would run after it, and he was probably long gone by now.The pictures, I took came out fairly well. What a lark to be sitting on a rock and a deer walk right in front of me. Unfortunately the photos disappeared, but the the memory is still with me.

They would not have been very happy with you since they did not get a deer.

Yeah...that is what I kind of thought...they also left me a rifle for protection and would have scolded me for not shooting it.

As a photographer, I'm quite jealous you had the good fortune to be in the right place at the right time. It's too bad the photos disappeared. I would have loved to have seen them!

When I was younger, it was easy to submit photos to magazines. If they liked them they would send you a check, if they did not like them they would send them back. I am thinking, I forgot who I sent them too, and they sent me a check.

My Dad and brothers were all hunters. There are others in my family who hunt also. I'm originally from West Virginia and hunting is still very big there, I know for a fact.
