Which is better? Prepaid or post paid for mobile service?

A few years ago, when I signed up for mobile service, it made sense to get post paid service.
I got a free phone, and with corporate discount for personal cell phone, I had a good rate.
Now it does not seem that good.
Actually I do not use up all my entitlement.
I could have saved more for getting prepaid service.
The problem is that the cell phone number is not transferable if I switch from post paid to prepaid.

I've had pre-paid for several years now, and I like it much better. No contract, so I can cancel anytime, not that I want to. Straight Talk has good service in most areas, and for unlimited talk and text, and 5 gigs of data, I'm paying less than $50 a month.

I started to realize the beauty of prepaid plan when I was out of country for a week.
I did not need use my postpaid entitlement for that entire week.
When i was out of country, I would not answer incoming calls from my friends, and definitely not from my boss.
I would buy a card in that country if I need to call back.
It is definitely a waste of money.
