Nose Bleed

Just wanna share this. Yesterday, our 15 month old son was feverish. I thought he's growing another tooth (his teeth is almost complete already). My wife gave him a dose of Biogesic drops early this morning when his temperature went about 37.5 deg Celsius (but it never reached 38). This after noon when we got home, he's been very active. He was actually in our neighbor's house ---my wife's Aunt. He kept walking around the house, giggling, pushing mono-block chairs. He just kept on moving around and he did it I think more or less an hour. It was raining then. We had some home made french fries for snacks, he had a little bite, the rest he would just chew a few times and spit it out. Right before dark, the rain stopped. So we went home. We left him at home with my wife's cousin and another neighbor to buy a bottle of distilled water. When we returned, they sounded worried. The baby's nose bled. I took a quick look at him, he's not crying or anything. It's as if he's not feeling anything wrong. They said, they were preparing him to sleep when after he bent his head forward, his nose started to bleed. I wasn't alarmed that much.I thought probably just the weather, or probably because of his almost tireless walking that afternoon. I wasn't worried a bit at the time. I went out of the house to park my motorbike properly, but when I got near my bike, I felt uneasy. I hurried back to the house. I'm still about 10 meters from the house, I can see them through the open door, my wife's face looks worried. The baby's nose bled again. We decided to bring him to the hospital. In the ER. The baby seemed fine. The nurse made an initial check up .. got his temperature and pulse and interviewed my wife. The baby's nose bled one more time. But after all this time, he was not crying. We were asked to wait for the doctor on duty who have just left to have dinner at the canteen. I said, it's ok, I went out to buy another bottle of Biogesic drops. (Wow, I just created a whole blog post here) anyways back to my story. When I returned, the doctor was already interviewing my wife. I interrupted and said to him that our son is G6PD Deficient. (actually it dawned to me that we might have accidentally given him food that caused the bleeding). To cut this short, after the check up and interview, the doctor, said, that there's nothing really to worry about, since even his temperature is still within the norm. Though there's some scarring inside his nose, so it might just have been physical--- probably the baby scratch his nose too hard or something. Right now, we're just thankful that he's ok. Except for his feverish temperature, he's fine. In fact he's now sound asleep

G6PD is an enzyme that protects the red blood cells. A G6PD difficient person could have hemolytic anemia, once exposed to certain foods or medication. They can't have peanuts, soy beans and soy based products (including soya milk). It's genetic, actually. He got it from his mother

I am happy that his nose bleed isn't a symptom of something serious . It's really best to consult a doctor when we notice a bit weird in the health of our love ones much more babies .

It's worrying when something is wrong with the little ones. You did the right thing by getting him checked out, and I hope he's ok now.
