The Girl Who Died
Vikings with horned helmets? They parodied that in the DW comics (a David Tennant story) with the Vikings proving to be an alien reconstruction based on an amateur Wagnerian opera society. Otherwise a good story with its ending rather given away by the title - is she the new Captain Jack or are there dire consequences? The electric eels were a silly convenience especially as they are not European creatures) but Clara's ingenuity when abducted was cleverly handled.
Last week's episode Before The Flood) - Good but overuse of the glasses - hooray they were broken this time - the Doctor criticised for letting the girl die though obsessing about saving Clara was apt - the new one begs the question of why Clara will get one in the end. We saw the effects of Tennant changing destiny in Waters Of Mars and last week got close to being a reprise of Father's Day, so possibly Capaldi is heading for trouble here. Great explanation for his face this week. It reminds him of last the time he saved someone who ought to have died, a character played by Capaldi himself in The Fires Of Pompeii.
The effects and costume on the Fisher King were spectacular - very Predator, and the grovelling please hurt me undertaker was fun. Clara and the others on the base ran about after the phone to no purpose as it was really a doctor solo piece with Clara just serving his seriously mixed up must save her at any cost attitude.

There have been some rather strange episode recently, which are in danger of changing the overall character of the Doctor.
By the way, the Valyre were not Vikings but similar characters from Germanic folklore. Despite both being associated with Valhalla, the Germanic God was Wotan as opposed to the Norse God of Odin.

@arthurchappell Yes, I watched the episode and agree that they claimed to be Vikings, but my point was that Wagner's operas did not include Vikings.

@Asylum It's a while since I read the comic referred to but its point is that the aliens have got their history hopelessly wrong by basing it on an incompetent poor attempt at Wagner
