Those Horrible Bloodsuckers

It is a mildly warm day, so I decided to take my toddler outside to play in our yard.
Our backyard has a swing set, and slide, and room for toddler legs to run. It would be a great place to hang out if it were not for the bloodsucker infesting it.
Despite it being late October, the mosquito population in my yard has not declined. In fact, they seem to be flourishing, and multiplying at an alarming rate!
I've tried sprays and candles and even the little belt clip fans that ar supposed to blow mosquito repellent, but nothing makes them go away.
So we got to spend little time outside before those blood hungry fiends drove us back inside.
Anyone have any good (cheap) ways to get ride of skeeters so me and my boy can play in our own yard?

Nope. We try to keep up with the standing water, keep it dumped out. BUT...there are neighbors EVERYWHERE and I can't say what's going on in their yards.

They were horrible when I lived in Tampa. I don't have much of a problem here.

It must be horrible to live where they are active year round, and carry such bad disease. At least here there is only a small chance of contracting a horrible fever from a bite. More an annoyance.

We live in an area where the mosquitoes and ticks carry dangerous diseases. We never go outside without a DEET based repellant. That seems to do the trick. However, we are now hearing that some mosquitoes are resistant to it. Often we do stay inside if it's really bad out.

I'm not entirely anti-chemical when it comes to pest control, but I don't like the idea of putting that stuff on my toddler.
Maybe I should look for a child friendly bug spray and see if it will help.
