Every fall we breathe a sigh of relief when our baby swans all make it to adulthood. There's a huge snapping turtle (that we think is 50 or 60 years old) that lives in the same pond that loves to snap them up. That we can live with, because that's just a part of Mother Nature. However, there are also people who like to shoot them.If that happens, it is very upsetting.
This morning when Mom and I went to Shawme Pond, there were all there. We were a little concerned that one seemed less active. We'll look in on him in a few days.

@NeldaHoxie I guess people do all kinds of strange things.

I don't know. I think it's a lot of different people, it's been going on for decades. Of course it could be someone who was a kid when he started and has continued into his adult life.

@NeldaHoxie I love listening to and watching the geese on the move.

We will go back tomorrow and see if he's moved. Yes the geese are definitely on the move. We hear their honking as they leave for warmer climates.

On Sunday we went to a lagoon with wild swans (ones that have a long black neck and black head). There were lots of small ducklings swimming there.

My son lives near a swan sanctuary where they come for the winter months. I look forward to seeing them there this year.

Is it a formal sanctuary or have the swans just claimed it for their own? That must be a sight to see.

@NeldaHoxie I don't know the details, but I think it is space where a lake becomes a river that has been set aside and protected.
