Do You Know Anyone Who Will Be Affected by Hurricane Patricia?

The biggest Pacific hurricane on record is about to hit the coast of Mexico, between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. Afterwards, the moisture from the storm is expected to drop between 15 and 20 inches of rain on Texas over the weekend. The remaining moisture will move northeast from Texas next week. I love Puerto Vallarta and have been there several times. I even camped out just south of Puerto Vallarta in the 1970's. I have also been to Manzanillo and enjoyed a week there. In addition, I lived for 25 years in Texas (I live in California now), and I continue to have many friends there. As a result, I am concerned about my friends and the people I have known in both Texas and Mexico. Texas is already experiencing flooding, and the worst of the storm has not hit, yet. Do you know anyone who will be affected by Hurricane Patricia?

Fortunately I do not know anyone down that way. But I still worry about all the people who have to go through this storm.

I heard on the news that many Mexicans were not told to evacuate. I fear there will be some loss of life. Such a shame.

By the way, why do we call a storm hurricane in the east coast but typhoon in the pacific? Both of them are storms (heavy rain and strong winds).

Typhoon is actually the word they use when it is going to hit Asia, because that is the word that was used in Asia in the past. Most of the rest of the world says hurricane. They are exactly the same thing, just different word.

I completely understand. We have cousins and several long time friends who live there. I hope they will all be OK.

Yes, there are millions of people in the path of this storm. We all need to pray that there is no loss of life.

I have heard a lot of good things about Puerto Vallarta. This is a big hurricane indeed. I hope and pray that everyone affected will be safe...

Puerto Vallarta is a charming small city. We have stayed at a couple of different resorts there. As it becomes more and more modernized, however, it has lost some of its charm.

I have many friends in Mexico but I'm not sure where they are in relation to the hurricane. By extension, all people in Mexico are really my neighbors so I am very concerned for all of them. We can pray but I just checked the news and it doesn't look good.

I have some friends in Austin TX. Have you heard how hard that part of Texas is supposed to be hit?

Sadly, Austin will be right in the thick of it. We'll know more tomorrow.

They say it's the biggest hurricane this season. Level 5 is nothing to sneeze about.

I just noticed you are from Dallas. We lived there for 25 years ... 7 years in DeSoto (where our home was hit 3 times by tornadoes, only once with much damage), 16 years in University Park, and 2 years in Plano. I hope you and your family are OK during the rain this weekend.

Maybe, but I am not sure. My daughter and grandkids like near Oklahoma City. The rains will hit them, but hopefully not too hard.

@ElizabethWallace - Mexico was lucky that the storm fizzled out. Thank goodness!

@DeborahDiane Thanks, I understand that the storm sort of fizzled once it hit land. That was good news.
