Not long after the first season of Person of Interest viewed on national TV there were a lot of talks about how the government spies on us. Just recently in the news they are now talking about how the government wants certain companies to give them the DNA samples they have. Wow this and some programs collecting information on us, how the internet tracks our movement through cookies, and how so many smart phones have GPS trackers on them are we really safe anymore? It seems like this show started off as a way to open people’s eyes of what could happen if the government created such a machine. Has anyone ever considered maybe they have? How do you know they aren’t watching us now and tracking our every movement? We don’t. Now cities around the world are installing camera to monitor the streets. They claim this is for our safety and to help stop crime. But is this really the truth or is it what they want us to believe? Do you really feel safer on the street having thousands of cameras watching your every move? How about having the GPS activated on your phone, so iTunes, some websites, and other companies can track you. How do you feel about people tracking your location? I for one turn mine off. I don’t want people following me around and tracking my movements. Lucky for me I live on an island that doesn’t have video cameras installed all over the place. We still have our freedom and privacy when we live here. Do you feel like your freedom and privacy is being invaded by street cameras, GPS trackers in your phone, and cars? Tell me how you feel about this. I feel like it’s an invasion of my privacy. Image source Wikimedia creative commons

We also see examples in programs such as NCIS or the old X files series, although these shows are fiction and the science is often a little over exaggerated.

@poehere The city cameras are constantly being monitored, but I am in agreement with that. This is intended to allow the police to keep a look out for crime or violence, which is in the general public's interest.

@poehere The public is always screaming about their privacy being invaded when things like this happen, but they also complain that the police and authorities no not monitor criminals enough.

@Asylum Yes I can see this one. I just don't see a lot of this here on the islands. But soon they are talking about a few streets in our town putting in cameras because kids are starting to fight around these areas and they want to control it better. I don't know if they will ever do it but one time they were talking about using them in Papeete.

I've never heard of this show, but I don't watch a lot of television. It's a good thing I don't have GPS or a smart phone. To my knowledge nobody is tracking my whereabouts.

@just4him Yes what started me thinking about this is that loved this show. Then a person posted here about DNA. This got me thinking of this show and how similar it is to what's happening today. Maybe not the same but I swear it could be close to the same.

I have to agree with you on this one. Lucky here on the islands we have a bit more privacy and not people spying on us here. Glad I live here and not some place else,.

I don't like it either, although it does come in useful in cases of crime. Basically I like it for everyone else!!

They could be bugging our phones. Do you ever when on the phone hear something like a beep and wonder if someone is listening in to your phone call trying to find information?
