Event to Raise Money for Refugee Kids

A nearby community organized a dinner and square dance to raise money to support a school for Syrian refugee kids who are living in Turkey. The whole community from babies to elderly men and women came and took part in the fun. We danced until everyone was dizzy and then they brought out tables and chairs and served a delicious lasagne and salad supper.
I haven't been to a dance like that in years. What a lot of fun we had!

It sounds like a wonderful event, do you know how much money was raised?

It was fun. I don't know how much they made yet, but I'm sure we'll hear about it eventually. There were more than a hundred people there, and at $10 each for admission, they must have made over a thousand dollars. People also paid money for snacks (dinner was included in admission) and there was a silent auction with many donated items. It could have been a few thousand dollars at least.

@Sheilamarie78 What a great community of people you live among. It is amazing what can be done when people combine their cares and energy to help others. Congrats.

Just as an aside, the community is very rural and has a population of 100 people.

Very tasty, and it was fun to try more than one pan because everyone makes lasagne a little differently.

It's a good idea to try to combine all these things.

Those are the sort of things that I don´t see in aa big city. When I go to my aunt´s house (in a small city) I feel the way neighbos help each other.
I´m glad that you had so much fun while working for a good cause.

The organizers did a lot of research before deciding where to send the money.

Maybe we should plan an online square dance -- what? how could we do that? What was I thinking?

O, there will be lots of dancing here in Canada when the 25000 refugees, as promised by Justin Trudeau, arrived in Canada.

I used to go square dancing (they called in contra dancing) at the local grange hall. It was so much fun. I hope they raised a lot of money for the kids.

Contra dancing and square dancing have a lot in common, but they're not exactly the same thing. Part of it is in the history. Because I'm from New England originally, I was more familiar with contra dancing. Usually it involves two lines "contra" to each other, while square dancing is done in squares of usually 8 dancers. There are a lot of overlaps in the two styles.

It's great when a community comes together.
By the way--new rule at MyLots--you talk about food you have to send me some of it!
