This morning I woke up to blue skies and the birds singing. This is the first day in the last 16 days this has happed. But when you wake up to such a beautiful morning you’re sure to find some critter playing in and around your home.
A few wonderful critters like cockroaches, slugs, and centipedes crawled deep into their holes and closed their doors so the rains wouldn’t flood them out. But now the birds woke them up around 5 this morning and they all started to dig their way out.
When I walked in my kitchen this morning you’d never imagine what I saw. I was greeted by a giant red centipede curled up in the middle of my kitchen floor. Normally the giant red centipedes are older and have lived a lot longer than the black ones we find around here.
Normally where I live I don’t see a lot of them but this morning I found one in my kitchen. These things are fast with their 100 legs and can out run me in no time at all. So I had to be extra quiet and not wake it up. I got around it and closely examined it to make sure it would wake up and move too fast. Lucky for me it was sleeping right in front of my cooking pots. I grabbed one of the bigger ones and came down on this old guy. I ended up smashing him and grinding the pot around on top of it. I needed to make sure it was dead.
I took him out of my home using a dust pan and broom to sweep him up. I gave it to the chickens to eat. They fought over this poor guy and in no time he was gone.
What’s funny is the amount of slugs that slimmed their way into my home this morning. I had to go get a garden bucket and a spatula and start scooping them off my kitchen floor. I threw them in the river so the eels could feast on them.
Now the major clean up. The wonderful cockroaches, with winged backs. Yes our roaches can fly. No joke this is true. They can’t fly far but they can fly. These things are hard to kill because it seems like they have some sort of armor protection on them. Lucky for me my sister in laws kitten had found her way into my kitchen. She was running around and playing with them. Once she had them turned over on their back she lost interest and went to find another one. I had to smash all of them and remove them with a broom and pail this morning.
Yes it’s wonderful to see sunshine again here on the islands. It was nice to hear that all the topical storms in and around Tahiti have finally moved away and left us blue skies, singing birds, and a lot of fun creatures in our home.
How was your morning?

Nice for you to see some sunshine. It's been up and down for me for the last couple of weeks. The temperatures don't seem to want to stay sable. One day sweat dripping off of you, and the next day, fridgid weather. Talk about some weird weather.
Regardless of the weirdness of the weather, I'm hoping for a good week. Won't be too long before November is here, and much shorter days. Ah, winter approaching around these here parts. The bed looks inviting, but I can't stay there forever.

On the opposite end of the world we are heading into summer. I understand what you've been saying about weird weather here. A lot of rain and winds the past week and today because of all of this it's seem a little humid and nice and sunny. We are heading into our summer months which means a little longer days here on the islands. We don't get the really long days as you get but here it is closer to 11 to 12 hours of daylight in the winter months and around 13 to 14 in our summer months.

In my eyes all centipedes deserve a chance to live and grow old. But not in my home. Especially when the lay curled up they are protecting something and can strike. I saw one about 4 years back curled up under a plant in my garden. When I moved the plant to clean he jumped at me. I mean jumped no story on this one. Was a little shocked when I saw this one. I was lucky I had the hoe right next to me and slicked it in half. Wow scary creatures and their sting really hurts from what I've been told. I guess so far I have never been bitten by one and I have lived in a lot of places they are thick and people get bit all the time.

OH yah I thought so too. In 17 years in this home we built it is only the 10th centipede I have seen. I don't usually find them in my garden but now and then when the season is like now they do craw up from the river to find a safer, dryer place. When we have tons of rain like we just have the river in front of my home really swells and rises. This is when you know to look out for them and be careful.
