This was in a cookbook that my mother-in-law in Arkansas gave me years ago. How to boil an egg: Best pan in the house 1 egg 1 cup water Place pan, egg, and water on stove and turn fire up around handle of pan. Retire to your favorite chair for a quick nap. After two hours, turn off smoke alarm. Scrape egg off the ceiling and bury in garden. Hide the pan. Burn some old rags to kill the scent in the neighborhood. Fix yourself a sandwich.

I have burned eggs while playing with the computer. The smell is as bad as burning fish.

You're right...there are some foods that just linger long after they're burned.

@1creekgirl I have been told that burning protein is the worst.

@marguicha That's interesting. I wonder what it is about the protein that smells worse when it's burned?

LMAO My dad did that once with a pot roast he was heating up. Made the mistake of going back to bed. No smoke alarms then. Just a house full of smoke and melted aluminum from the pan. He was a firefighter and wouldn't let us call anybody!!

That is so funny! Glad the house didn't burn down. I can see why he would be a little embarrassed for his co-workers to know what happened!

There are probably many of us who had "culinary mishaps!"

Did your mother -in-law like you and was she hoping you actually tried that recipe since the ending could have been much worse?

That is so funny. Did you not get along with your mother-in-law?

This is too funny! You're the second one to ask that! We actually got along pretty good. I've been married to her son for almost 50 years and she recently included me in the family.
