Or do they? During my years working in the corporate world it often seemed like the mean managers, supervisors and even regular employees were the ones who climbed the corporate ladder the fastest. On the other hand it seemed like the nice ones mostly finished last or don't get the promotion Have you noticed this? What are your thoughts?

Nah, I don't think it's the nice ones, it's the quiet ones with false humility that do finish last.

@Freelanzer Nothing wrong with being quiet but the ones who don't speak up for being too nice and look lowly upon themselves end up last.

What is wrong with being quiet and how would you recognize false humility?

You don't have to be nasty to succeed but it sometimes seems to help.

The problem with most people of today is that they are too nice to others, and there's nothing left for themselves. They have the mindset of "If I am nice, others will be nice to me also and I will be blessed." Such mindset is crappy. They become victims themselves and easily being used by others unsuspectingly.
It's always right to be nice, but let us not take it to the extreme where there will be nothing left for us. There is a time to be nice to others and there is a time to put yourself first. Because how can you help others if you cannot help yourself. More often than not, people that become successful are the people who are nice, smart, understanding, dynamic, and who knows how to balance their emotions to do the right thing. People that became successful unjustly do not last long. That's just the rule of the world. Kudos~

@Freelanzer No, although Steve Jobs was a great idea-man, inventor, and innovator, he sometimes does not value the importance of kindness. That's what he lacked in his legacy, but still, he did something amazing with his drive and desire.
Balance is the key to satisfying relationships. Kudos~
