Day 29 – Boasting 2 Kings 14:8-20 When things go right for us we tend to get boastful and puffed up believing that nothing can stand in our way. Yet something or someone always comes along to challenge us, and ultimately we face defeat. Amaziah had gone to war with Edom and won the battle. Having done so, he thought to take on Jehoash, king of Israel. However, Jehoash told him to stay home and not be so arrogant. Amaziah didn’t listen and Jehoash met with him and defeated him so that Judah fled before Israel. As Christians we tend to think we can face Satan alone. We have this idea that his temptations are no longer a problem for us and we can handle it. Yet Satan knows our weaknesses and preys on them to our hurt and sorrow. Pay attention to the words of Paul. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. It is only through Christ Jesus we can do all things. We cannot do anything on our own. Satan will defeat us every time. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour: We need to keep our guard up and that guard is Jesus Christ. We need to keep our armor on – the armor of the Holy Spirit. Only in that way will we defeat Satan and only in Jesus Christ can we boast. Let’s pray: Father, help me boast only in You and Your Son, Jesus. Keep me from being puffed up and thinking I can face Satan on my own. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
