How do you feel about driving on the wrong side of the road?

The retired police driver who taught my advanced driving skills course put it another way: "It's not the wrong side of the road. It's just the 'other side' of the road!" But today I've been driving on what - for me - is the wrong side. Leaving the comfort and familiarity of British roads behind me, I've been driving in Germany. It's easier to drive on the side you're not used to if you're in a local car - but for me it's not easy to try to simultaneously get the hang of a car you don't know and be on the wrong side. It all went without incident - 110 miles there, 100 miles back. Fortunately 160 or so were on motorways. Even an idiot with no driving skills can stay in the right place on a motorway. And as many of you will know, there are no speed limits on a lot of stretches of the autobahn so I took it as an opportunity to spot a nice, long, straight bit and put my foot down. I can now confirm that if you pass 100 mph, my Tom Tom has a nosebleed and gets really upset with you.

The wrong side would be any side you are not accustomed to in your own country. I think many countries that are in the British commonwealth drive on the left - well except Canada

I've never done it, as I've only ever been in the US and some parts of Canada... someday I hope to get to England but I am nervous about driving there.

What did the tom-tom do? I lived in France for a year and adapted so well that it felt odd driving on the left when I came home.

It started flashing red at me. Keeping in mind that if I did it back home I'd lose my license, I think it was trying to help me.

It is so strange driving on the 'Wrong side of the road'. Glad your drive was incident free!

The question will be whether I can adapt back to 'normal' when I land tomorrow in Birmingham. After I spent two weeks in the US, I kept going on the wrong side of roads for a month after.
