Please revert

"Please revert". This is grammatically wrong. But civil servants use it all the time. They've been told time and again that "revert" means to restore to an original state. That means that by reverting an email, one would restore the reply to before it was replied. Sounds stupid right? But civil servants keep using this stupid term nonetheless. Why? Because higher ranking civil servants see no reason to change. And whatever higher ranking civil servants say, the lower ranking ones will follow. Civil servants are slaves to uniformity you see. Uniformity of thought, uniformity of ideas, uniformity of language. This stupid term will continue to exist until some enterprising high ranker decides that it is time for change. And not for the sake of using the right words, mind you. Just for the sake of APPEARING forward-thinking

And look what happened to the Vogons, the most procedure-driven example of life in the Galaxy, a whole race of civil servants...
