Grrr I hate days like this!

We have been away for a few days but got back yesterday, so today seemed like a little bit of a bonus, an extra day to do stuff before we start again on the whirlwind of school etc. It looked like being a nice day so I had planned to get some work finished, deal with some other paperwork, do some work in the garden, even book a holiday for next spring (since we have failed dismally to arrange anything overseas this year, largely because my partner and I never have a chance to talk to each other without interruptions every few seconds for long enough to actually agree anything!) and of course do things with the girls. So what actually happened? Well I woke up at 7 am and spent the next couple of hours cuddling the girls in bed and reading books and, rather unusually, explaining genetics and hormones, gender identity and sex changes to Big One. After that we got up and I made a pile of pancakes while they watched ‘Octonauts’ and then we had a late breakfast and I got the girls dressed ready to go outside. At 11:30 my partner finally surfaced and had some breakfast and we went out into the garden and managed to move the chickens to new patches and reconstruct a new run. Then Little One said she was tired and wanted to go to sleep on Mummy’s shoulder. Well I thought maybe that wasn’t too much to ask, I could snuggle her to sleep with a story and then cuddle her while I finished my work. So we came in and I made a drink and we got cosy on the sofa. Then of course Little One perked up; we read three books and she said she wasn’t tired any more and wanted to play. Of course by that time I was feeling really quite sleepy myself, and not at all like getting back to some hard work outside. Then before I had re-motivated myself Little One said she was tired again now and wanted a nap again. Cue more snuggles, she closed her eyes for about 30 seconds and then said she wanted to get up again and play with her dollies. By this time the sun had all but gone, I had got as far as taking the garden tools out of the shed but that was it, I had achieved precisely one thing on my list and to top it all my coffee had gone cold. In no time it will be dinner time (which always takes ages) and after that and getting the girls to bed I am always far too tired to actually do anything very constructive. And next week my partner (all nicely refreshed now of course after 12 hours sleep) will be away for work so I won’t get a chance to talk things over with him at all. And before you say that he works to support us all – no he doesn’t, we split the household bills between us. I often look forward to the weekends but when they arrive I wonder why I did. If you don't make a list, you won't be disappointed if you don't tick off all the items.

@Fleura You can make yourself unhappy if you make a list of things you can't all tick off. You can make yourself happy if you don't make one beforehand but write down everything you've accomplished at the end of the day. Am I wise or what?

Well that's one solution I suppose!

@MALUSE I confess I do sometimes add unforeseen tasks to the list after I have done them, just so I can then tick them off!

I had to come check this out - I don't think you were complaining at all, more like you just shared your day and it's wasn't the bed day.

Oh thanks, glad it didn't come across as too whiny!

I work every weekend and never get to enjoy them. Making a list helps me get everything done through the week that I used to do on weekends. It's nice to cross each item off and see the progress.

Yes I need lists otherwise I am bound to forget something until it's too late and then I get annoyed with myself, but of course then I have the problem of not managing to do everything on the list!

Hmmm sounds a very busy day Fluer. Kiddies can be a handful. Wow @ having to explain genetics and such so early in the morn oh dear that would tire me out. I hope you will get to book your holiday soon as well. Gardening would have been nice. You put your share in too of the bills of course.

Yes we certainly do have some interesting conversations about science and medicine!

This time of year the day is over before it's begun.

@Fleura I should have raked leaves today but it was just too nice a day for that.

Too true. I think perhaps I could compensate by starting earlier but in the mornings the garden is really far too wet.

You need to work out with the partner for the solution.

You're right we should. We've been together more than 12 years and haven't worked it out yet, he loves to sleep and I feel so mean waking him up but I should just give him a kick!

Sometimes the idea of spending time with the girls pay bills with a mine set it has a tendency to all work out.
