I am using hp laser jet printer1020 model since 3 years. Sometimes it is getting problem with it’s input paper. Which type of paper is to be used to get good prints without jamming paper? What other precautions to be taken to add this one?....

Your printer is probably overdue for a thorough clean. This may mean some minor disassembly of the printer (hence a set of suitable tools) and the use of a soft brush, a can of compressed air, a vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle and some understanding of logical and careful working with mechanical devices. If you cannot find instructions online for cleaning your printer model, you had better find a maintenance engineer who can do it for you! It will be cheaper and far more satisfactory in the long run. Be aware that spilled and excess toner is carcinogenic and very, very messy to clean up. Always use the best quality paper you can afford. It should be a brand marked 'suitable for laser printers'. Cheap papers produce an enormous amount of paper dust and are a false economy.

In addition to this, I'd like to point out that it's also a good idea to make sure that you're using HP original toner cartridges. Off-brand cartridges are remanufactured, meaning that they're already-used cartridges that have been refilled. Some of the HP toner cartridges have the print drum built into them. I'm not sure if this is the case with the 12A cartridges the LaserJet 1020 takes, but if it is it's very possible that the drum has been damaged. That could be causing jams as well. I'd suspect a problem with the cartridge if it's been recently changed and the jamming only started after it was changed.

@yukimori There are compartments where you can open and get the stucked paper in the printer. Is your printer that way?

@jvincent_129 Mine are, but issues with print drum or dirty rollers won't be fixed simply by removing the jam. The actual problem needs to be addressed or jams will keep happening.
