Our fun Halloween

Saturday morning and afternoon were pretty relaxing in my house.
At 5pm there was a Halloween parade at the school. The children just go in their costumes and walk a short distance while being judged. There are three or four age categories and 3 winners in each category.
Previous years they gave out $1 to each child that attended and wasn't a winner. They didn't do that this year. My kids enjoyed getting to see their friends dressed up and I got a few pictures of them. They usually take a photo of the winners and put them in the newspaper but they didn't do that this year either.
It's really fun to see with some of the costumes parents come up with for their children. There was a girl in a box decorated as an American Girl Doll. A boy who is in a wheelchair who had a giant box around him decorated as a firetruck including a light that lit up and sounds. A boy in a stroller dressed as batman and the stroller was decorated as the batmobile.
Since I was a child (maybe before then even) they have been doing these Halloween parades the same way. At the end they pass out cider and donuts. Another big change this year was that you had to wait in line and get a number and your name written down to register. My children were numbers 88 and 89 I believe. There were many more children after us. It usually is a very short occasion but it took nearly an hour for the entire thing to be complete this year.
We had a little time to kill before trick or treating so we walked over to the parking lot where they were doing a trunk or treat. I was really happy to see how many people came out and participated in this. It was a lot of fun. My favorite trunk was a girl and her son dressed up as Mary Poppins and the chimney sweeper. It was so cute. I'm not sure who won for best decorations as I haven't heard.
From 6-8 there was trick or treating in the town. There were a lot less houses lit in town compared to other years. I think maybe because so many were at trunk or treat or the haunted house possibly. We did a lot of walking up and down big hills in those two hours. It was pretty good weather though so it was a good time. We walked around with my daughters friend Riley, her mother and one of Riley's friends. The girls had a blast trick or treating together.
After we got home the kids chowed down on their candy. The guy I am seeing and his son came over and spent the night.

When all our children were still living with us . . Halloween was fun.

Yes I can imagine it would be more fun if your children were still living with you. I dread when mine grow up and no longer want to do the fun Halloween things with me. I am going to have the worlds worst case of empty nest syndrome when my children are old enough that they move out on their own.

When kids are judged and don't win it is a huge disappointment for them. I never make my kids costumes. I did one year and my daughter won that year but since I have always gone with store bought costumes. I never expect to win because of that. We always just went for the fun of it. I liked that every child who attended used to get $1 anyway. It was really nice of them. Must be this year they couldn't get enough funds for that.

Sounds like you had a fun filled day. When I went thru town during trick or treating I didn't see many houses lit up either. I'm thinking more were out at parties or trick or treating then staying home. Glad everyone had fun and the weather was good. It was nice weather here also

I believe the temperature on Halloween was around 43. That seems pretty cold but it really wasent to bad. There was no rain or wind or snow. Today was amazing out and I didn't know how nice it was until about 2pm. By then most of my day was gone. It was 73 today. That is so amazing for November here where I live.
