The past couple of weeks we had hunting season and both my husband and son got their deer. My husband was processing his deer. On our kitchen counter was some of it getting ready to be cut up. Our grandson came in and thought it was a turkey. We said no and he said okay a chicken. My husband laughed and said it had four legs and those on the counter are it's forelegs, it also has hind legs. Which mean's it had four legs. The only fashioned name for it is hind. So forelegs and hind legs, make the four legs of a hind. What is it. Our grandson was pretty smart and said a deer. Yup he is right. And my husband said another name for this hind or deer is also Stag because it was a boy deer.

You have a smart grandson (and a smart husband!). It would have spoiled the riddle to point out that a male deer is actually a hart and it's the female that is the hind. Never mind! You could ask your grandson how it is that a female deer has 12 legs?

The answer (to be repeated very quickly) is that there are two fore legs, which makes 8 and then four hind['s] legs making 12.
