Day 35 – Fear God 2 Kings 17:24-41 Today all across the world people worship different gods. We even know the god of the nation or country when we bring it to mind. All claim their god is the God, the one above all gods. Assyria had taken Israel into exile and brought other nations to occupy Samaria. When they did they encountered something they never encountered in their own country – God. Because they did not worship God, He sent lions among them and killed some of them until they sent a message to the king of Assyria and told him the problem they encountered. They told him “The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land”. The king had a priest brought back from exile to teach the nations who lived there to fear the Lord. Yet when the priest came to Bethel and taught the nations to fear the Lord, they not only feared the Lord, they also worshiped their own gods, setting them up in the high places and the cities where they lived. Isn’t that what we have done? Aren’t we like the nations who went to live in Israel? They learned to fear God, yet they held onto their gods and worshiped both. They compromised. We are a nation of compromise. We go to church on Sunday, and then we go out and do whatever we please with our lives, living for the world and the pleasures therein. We keep God contained within the four walls of our churches, and make laws stating we cannot mention the name of God outside those four walls. God told His people they were not to compromise, but they were to worship only Him, not all the gods of the nations around them as well. He reminded His people it was He who brought them out of Egypt with a strong arm. When they worshiped only Him, He would deliver them from their enemies. However, Israel’s enemies now lived within their borders, and they were in exile. Where are you in your walk with the Lord? Have you compromised your faith and live for the pleasures of the world around you? When was the last time you walked through the doors of your church? Are you so hungover from the previous night’s activities that you cannot open your eyes, and if you do it’s to take something for the pounding headache hammering on your brain? We need to stop compromising our walk with the Lord. We need to fear God and worship only Him. We need to kick Satan out of our lives, because he is the one who caused us to compromise our walk with God. Jesus told His disciples about sheep and how they know the shepherd’s voice, and will not go to strangers. He told them, He was their shepherd and the door to the sheepfold. He also told His disciples how thieves would do whatever they could to steal the sheep. John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV) Satan is the thief who causes us to compromise our walk with God. We need to examine our lives and kick Satan out and turn our lives back over to God and He will give us the life He promised with Him. We need to fear God and worship Him alone. There isn’t God and. There is only God. Let’s pray: Father, help me serve You alone and not compromise my walk with You by entertaining the pleasures of this world. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
