Subtle way to supervise workers

This lady had a flower shop. While she would sit at the entrance to the shop accepting orders her workers would be inside doing their job. She had placed a mirror at such an angle that she could see her workers from where she sat.
Do you think this was neat?

Employees are spied on more than they know but it is a way for a supervisor to ensure they are doing their jobs.

@arthurchappell May be the staff forgets there are mirrors. But that is better than putting on their best behaviour when the boss is seen.

A necessary evil in some ways as staff will get lazy and skive off if not watched - a boss walking round the shop floor will put staff on guard while mirrors and cameras are easily forgotten

@allknowing yes exactly that. OI have worked in places where some staff get lazy the instant the boss is out of site

That I would not know. I used to be just a buyer of flowers then but did not quite like the idea.

I see nothing wrong in this arrangement. I've observed that in many stores/shops CCTV cameras are installed now a days and the owner keep monitoring their activities. I think she would have done it for convenience sake.

Different circumstances require different methods. But I would have never liked if my boss did that to me.

@allknowing - Of course her workers won't like to be spied because they are tied down and cannot just relax or yawn

@dpk262006 It is better if one sees the supervisor than it is done in hiding.

She should have come and asked for your advice before implementing her idea.

many companies use CCTV for the same purpose - if she has a small number of workers all in one place a few mirrors suffices

yes it is really neat as she sees without hovering over them making them nervous and yet she can telljust what is going on very subtle good for her

Also she did not have to move from her seat thus paying attention to her customers. May be she has now put a cctv

Sort of, but it would be nice if she could trust them without needing the mirror.

I too felt the same way. I do not do that. Having said that probably she may have had some bitter experience leading to this.

@allknowing Or it's psychological, in that having the mirror there, even if she's not watching closely, they think she is and work better with that in mind.
