I recently signed up on a site called "Post Crossing" where you put in a little bit about your self and then are assigned to other people to send post cards to. By the same token, the site assigns people to send post cards to you, too. Yesterday I received my first postcard from anyone on the site. It was from a man in Berlin, who (I think) made a point of sending me a postcard with a bear (which, he explained on the post card, was Berlin's heraldic animal), as I said I liked bears on my profile. :)

This sounds like a very unusual type of site. Is the purpose behind it to connect people who are interested in deltiology?

Eh...I don't think that it's unusual--there are plenty of sites that promote sharing letters and things--"collecting" pen pals and the like. Quite honestly, I don't know what deltiology is. ;)

@xstitcher Deltiology is the collecting of postcards. This is what made it seem unusual to me because I do not know of any such sites. The interest in pen pals was popular when I was a child, but I have not encountered it for decades.

Ah, I see, @Asylum -- thank you. I thought the word might mean what you explained it meant, but wasn't sure. :) Thank you for teaching me a new word. I should have thought. Lots of things seem unusual to me, too, as they would if you hadn't come across it before.
