So Many Fireworks

It is bonfire night here in the United Kingdom, an odd night when us Brits celebrate a failed attempt to blow up the House of Parliament and the fireworks have been going constantly since it went dark at 5pm tonight. It's now 9.30pm so that is four and a half hours of big bangs and Ruby the dog is now a bag of nerves.
Don't get me wrong I live fireworks but we will have this every night for the next three days and it is not good for getting the kids to sleep or the poor dog.

That's an odd thing to celebrate! Could you tell us more about the event? What was happening at the time?
