Isn't voice mail standard on most cell phones?

We recently switched over to Boost Mobile and other than the first bill or two being goofy everything has been fine.... except the voice mail. Now I've had a cell phone for a good 20yrs and I know how to use voice mail and set it up ect. But this phone it gives you an error of sorts. I've looked online to see if there was something I wasn't aware of and there isn't. Of course I have time today to inquire into it BUT I'm not crazy to take 3 kids to the mall wich will be insane on a saturday to go to the retailer we got the phones from. Hubby's phone has the same problem so it's not just me but perhaps it's the plan?

The twins are on boost mobile, and I know they have voicemail. But perhaps it is your plan. If you're on a minute plan the voicemail might be blocked so as not to use up your minutes. My kids are on an unlimited plan.
