Feeling Better

The trip to the Peter Case concert in Columbus, Ohio did great things in terms of getting me out of the "funk" caused by the Gabapentin. When I got home I decided to start a regimen of B vitamins. I've taken B vitamins (especially B12) on and off for years, and I usually feel much better physically and mentally when I take them. What do you know, I felt better within three hours of taking them yesterday. I had a lot more energy, and I didn't just sit at my computer desk and stare at the walls. When I go back to the doctor I'm going to talk to them about these "SSRIs" (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). EVERY STINKING TIME I've been on one it's made me moodier, more depressed, and knocked me out like a light. In fact, I don't think I slept as much after major surgery 20 years ago as I did after popping two 100-mg Gabapentins. That's a low dose (per the nurse at the VA clinic), so what would've happened if I'd actually taken a lot of it? I can live with physcial pain. I've lived with it for decades, so it's nothing new. The emotional pain that these pills induce or exacerbate, however, is another story. If the side effects include "may cause new or worsening depression" then I'm going to pass. I'll be better off.

I live with lowr back pain. But like you, I don't mind a little physical pain as long as I'm happy. Any medicine that might cause depression would be hard for me to swallow.
