I wonder if anyone here ever works on board a cruise ship

On my first cruise, I met many happy crew members on board the cruise ship. I got to know some of them by first name basis, as well as their home town, universities attended, the number of children they had, their parents, their favorite food, their work schedule, and others. I was quite surprised to learn that many of them were graduates. At least those whom I managed to get into a conversation. All of them had good spoken English, and yet they were happy to clean window, clear table, and other work assigned to them. The only thing I did not dare to ask is the salary. Salary is a very private matter, though they mentioned that they can make more than a thousand dollars a month. Many of them came from countries where a thousand dollars is a lot of money. They seem very happy at their work. The only thing is that they cannot go home every evening to be with their family. They can only go home for 2 months after the stint of 6 to 8 months of work.

I too met really nice crew members on my last cruise. I guess they like the adventure and it is a great opportunity to save money and send back to family members at home.

Oh yes, they definitely save a lot of money. They practically spend nothing, except when the ship reaches a port, and they buy the card to surf net or call home. Many of them are better guides than the local tour guides.

Well, it's sad as it is to be on the ship, even freakier when the ships starts swinging when ever there's a huge wave coming their way. So, I think smile is the best thing for them to counter these threats not only just to make the customer or client satisfied. you can't be around with a sailor who is paranoid and creepy on the ship

The cruise ships are very stable. After taking a cruise for a week, I find that the taxi is more shaky than the ship. Many modern ships are so well built that you do not get seasick. You are more likely to get sick when you take a bus that drives up the mountain road than to take a cruise.

I think with your experience, you are over-qualified for cruise jobs. You must be getting paid much more than the crew members.
