Do endings make you sad?

Every time I finish a good book or a favorite series on tv I always get upset. People think I am strange because many times I won't finish the last episode in a series or the last few chapters of a book because I don't want to finish it. Some people look at endings as the start to new beginnings but it always makes me sad. What do you think, do endings make you sad?

They don't exactly make me feel sad, more like disappointed. The latest book I read I felt the story was really just beginning at the end of the book. It took 300+ pages to bring this couple together and as soon as they admitted their feelings for one another the story ended. Probably why I don't like reading romances. But look at the TV show Castle. It took forever for them to get together, then they get together, then they get married and no sooner are they married that they get separated. That one just makes me mad.

@bagarad The book I just finished reading that I am referring to ended with "Okay, I admit it, I love you" type of thing. Not even a wedding or proposal, not even any romancing because they were both fighting their feelings. That is not the way I saw the story ending.

Maybe some authors don't know what to do after a couple finally gets hitched. I think the novels of Bess Streeter Aldrich portray a much more realistic view of marriage, even though they were written in the last century. The Rim of the Prairie is the only real romance of hers that I remember, so not a good one to start with. One of my favorites is Miss Bishop. Another is Mother Mason. One of the most interesting is The Lieutenant's Lady. These are not typical romances, but they do give you a good look at some marriages, some good, some not so good at first. What I like are the values I see lived out -- especially in Miss Bishop. Mother Mason will appeal to those who have been married a long time and have older children.

They do!!! When I finished watching FRIENDS, I was thinking why it ended!! Same happened with Breaking Bad and How I Met Your Mother as well!!! Even with 'That 70's show!!!' ... The connection these series make are really precious!!

Somehow they does but that would not make me not finish a book or watch a last episode

Sometimes they make me disappointed. Like the ending of Big Love, actually the whole last season was just so disappointing to me that it made me not watch TV shows anymore...except Game of Thrones ... I'll keep watching Game of Thrones until the end!

You are not strange. Good stories engage readers, he makes a mental bond with characters of story. So it is natural that their sad end makes him sad

Yes, endings make me sad from time to time, but at the same time I realize they are inevitable. No matter how much I love a book or a TV series, I have to accept the fact that it must have an end like everything else in the universe. Therefore I usually manage to get rid quite fast of those nostalgic states of mind and search for other things to enjoy until they end too and so on. I am sad for a short while, but then I move on and try to discover new and exciting things.

Yes, especially if I really enjoyed a series. There is a series right now that I really have enjoyed that is ending very soon, and I am going to miss it.
