Flies Won't Be Gone

Since the weather's getting cooler in this late fall season, I'm still dealing with the same housefly situation I've mentioned in last month's post. This time, I'm finding them in the living room-dining room area, my mini home office niche, my bedroom and bathroom. Though my house is clean, and there's no cracks through the window screen or screen doors, they've made it easy for me to swat them on the walls. *sigh* Why are they here? How do you get rid of them for good? And how to remove the bug splatter on the walls? I might have to go check out that Youtube video you've mentioned last month, real soon.

I've had a couple of houseflies in here today they annoyed me to no end.. Finally I got my electric pest bat on and whacked the buggers.

Maybe it was a good year for flies, bad year for us because we have to put up with them. Was it warm there, warmer then normal. I know in Chico, California it was hot, 113f at some point and 100plus for the whole of June. I came back mid Sept so I can't say if they still had flies there, but I do know it was still rather warm with the temperature in the low to mid's.

Maybe. So far no flies. I did see a big mosquito fly around the ceiling fan twice so far in two months. I thought it was a bee or wasp.

@kevin1877uk It is. No more bugs, flies or ants for me until next spring maybe. Darn pests!

It's strange that there's still present in your house. We had them up until a few weeks ago as well, even when the weather started getting colder. It baffled both my husband and I. It seemed so strange that they would still be around when it was so cool. I hope they leave to your house soon.

It is strange. At least they're on the walls and not flying around, like this summer. Every once in awhile, I see one or two on a wall. But at least it's not a swarm of them. I might need to get Raid at some point.

I wonder if they are getting in somewhere, or if they got in and then breed more. I know its gross, but those fly strips work wonders, to clean a bunch out, then you can pitch the gross thing

@KristenH I hate ants. Their bites now scar on me, and fire ants give me hives

@Jessicalynnt Yikes! I haven't seen them on the kitchen floor since September. Thanks God! Time to get some Raid action as well.

Me too. At least I don't have to worry about ants right now. I did kill two last night-one managed to escape but I killed it. I might have to consider getting one for around the house.

House flies are annoying. We have a butcher next door and sometimes get bluebottles coming in. Once it gets really cold though, they disappear

I hope so, Janet. Can I hope for winter to come soon?

You can start some tidying up and ensure fruit peels like that from a banana is thrown into covered garbage receptacles. Next would be the food leftovers which need to be covered or kept in the fridge. You may want to look for the source of where these flies are coming from and to some extent call pest control to help you.

They are a pain to deal with. Swat them and try the glue paper and also making sure its not too humid in your home. As for the bug guts on walls good old soap and water (sad face) it sucks sorry hope you get rid of the little buggers.

@KristenH I suppose you can use any cleaners really if you don't mind the smell of the murphy's oil then I guess you could use it. I use plain soap and water because we use scented candles and I don't want the two scents to clash and then it smell bad lol.

Thanks for the tip on soap and water. Would Murphy's oil work as well? I'll see about the glue paper. Not too humid. I have the temp at 72 when it's on, since it's cold outside. I haven't seen too many around here, except for two now.

@lokisdad Thanks. I just tried Windex on some spots on the wall---some of the splatter came out, one spot didn't. So at least it worked for now.

I hope you were able to get rid of them. There are sticky old fashioned things that you hang from the ceiling to catch the flies. We rarely see a fly and by now never because it s too cold for them outdoors.

At the moment, I have for the past few weeks. Since it's getting colder, I hope they head elsewhere and leave me alone.

You have house flies this time of year in Ohio?

Yes, some. All indoors and on walls. Since it's really feeling like winter on some days, I hope they would fly away and be gone.
