What happened to all the "make love not war" believers?

I was born in the 50s and grew up in the 60s amidst the Civil Rights era, Flower Power, Haight Ashbury, free love and songs with verses like "Come on people now; smile on your brother; everybody get together; try to love one another right now." Those people were going to some day be the leaders of today, yet either they failed to stand up or they lost that belief somewhere along the way.
I had so much hope as a preteen and teenager that people could live in harmony, that we didn't have to always be at war or hold onto hate. Even though I wasn't someone who could live that "free love" lifestyle, I admired much of it because so many of them were genuinely at peace with themselves and each other.
I wish a movement similar to that would come back. Maybe it's time again to put "peace, love & harmony" back into play.
What do you think?

"Make love, not war" only works when both sides agree. We've yet to find an enemy that says, "hey that sounds good!" Instead, they only agree after they are defeated in war...then they want peace.

I still want that. But too many people have a lust for power and we don“t fight for what we want.

I am not into war. Our disastrous policy in Iraq has created much of the problems that we have today. I detest war mongers in particular. They call for war as long as their children don't have to face the consequences.

I was also born in the fifties and lived most of what you lived. Remember the big demonstrations for peace? Montreal, where I live, is where John Lennon sang, "all we are saying is, give peace a chance." The reality is, while many of us may want peace there are many that don't. Think of those that make weapons. Right now it looks like things are heating up for more wars and bloodshed. There will be world peace one day but only when God takes over the administration of the earth.

@jerzgirl We go to war to take what they have, to dominate and enslave, to steal and rape, Since mankind's history is one of war, it really tells us something, doesn't it? Thankfully, we are not all like that. Some even sacrifice their lives so that they do not hurt or kill. Have you come across any group of people that will not kill or go to war, even if they have to go to jail or lose their lives? The early Christians were like that! Who is like that today as a group?
