What do you think of websites that automatically play audio when you open them?

There's an online news website that I used to frequent. In fact, I was asked to be a Moderator for the site. But I rarely go there now. Why? The biggest reason is that when you open one of their stories, some ad on the page will start playing audio. I can't stand that! I often listen to music while on the internet, and the last thing I want is for some website to start blasting some commercial at me. When this first started happening, I'd try to identify which ad was sending the audio and shut it off. I don't bother any more. Now, the moment unwelcome audio starts playing, I click away from that site. When a website starts automatically playing audio without me asking it to, I consider it not only extremely annoying, but downright rude and disrespectful. What about you? Are you OK with auto-play audio, or is it a practice that should be banned?

I rarely have my sound turned on so have no idea whether that happens to me or not. However, it certainly sounds off putting.

I hate the auto play audio. My husband always keeps his speakers up loud, (because he is hard to hear). It blasts out crazy. I keep my speakers down so the auto play audio doesn't blast out.
