When I lived up North ever year I looked forward to the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. As a child I thought it was the most beautiful sight I had ever see. As an adult I still think it is a gorgeous sight.
Have you ever wondered this tradition started? Believe it or not, I didn't, at least not until this year.
75 years ago, in 1931, on Christmas Eve, this tradition was born. It started during the height of the Great Depression.
As workers were waiting for their paychecks at a construction site they started decorating a small tree with garlands of paper, a few tin cans, and strings of cranberries.
Isn't it wonderful how the Christmas spirit can come shining through even in the worst of times?

I'm originally from Jersey - so that tree was only a short distance. I went to NYC during Christmas many many times and saw the trees different years. I wonder if the crowds will be big this year?

@AbbyGreenhill I imagine the crowds will be as big as ever.. The feeling of good will is so present there that many people go just for that.

@HazySue I don't know, this situation right now is a little more serious.
