Day 6 – Breach 1 Chronicles 13 Breach means broken. Anything that can be broken can be said to be a breach: contracts, promises, wills for example. David wanted to bring the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem where it belonged. He wanted to bring it back with lots of pomp and ceremony because it represented God’s presence among His people, a presence that wasn’t seen during the entire time Saul was king. However, the one person who should have known how to bring the Ark of the Covenant back also caused the breach. The Ark of the Covenant had been taken during a battle with the Philistines, and when they returned it, they put it on a cart with oxen to take the Ark of the Covenant back to the Israelites. The Philistines were unaware how the Ark of the Covenant was to be carried, but the priests did know, and carrying it on a cart was incorrect and when Uzza reached out to steady the cart because the oxen stumbled, it was a breach in the contract between God and His people and God killed Uzza for causing the breach. When Uzza died, David was afraid of God. David loved God, had demonstrated how much he relied on God, encouraged himself in God the entire time Saul hunted him, and now God killed one of His priests and David didn’t know how to proceed, fearing God would do more than kill a priest who touched the Ark of the Covenant. David did the only thing he could under the circumstances – had the Ark of the Covenant taken to the closest home, that of Obededom where it stayed for three months. In that time, God blessed the household of Obededom. God made a way to heal the breach between His people and Himself through the blood of His Son, Jesus. All those who accept Jesus as Savior and Lord become His children and receive the blessings belonging to God’s chosen people. Just as Obededom received God’s blessings while the Ark of the Covenant was in his home, we too receive God’s blessings when we allow Jesus into our home, our hearts, and our lives. Let’s pray: Father help me to remain faithful to You so no breach will ever come between us. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
