Grandfather and His Brother

Continuing on about my Grandfather being a cook in the army. He was an excellent cook and used to make Sunday Dinner of either Chicken or Roast Beef, in this way he was giving my Grandmother a break from cooking. He had an older brother still in Germany just before World War II and when Hitler was just coming into power he was in a bar with other workers, (he was in construction) and he talked out against Hilter and his regime. Some brown shirts came in and took him out of the bar and no has ever been able to find out what happened to him. He had a wife and son and when the war was over his son went to the Americans to see if they could find out anything. They could find no trace of him or what happened to him so it will always be a mystery. My Grandfather felt he was probably taken out and shot and buried.

Most war stories are awfully sad. We had a dictator in my country for some years (which seemed an eternity) and we knew we had to shut our mouths in any public place.

That has to be a terrible thing to know you cannot speak up or something bad will happen to you.

@marguicha It is terrible when things like that happen because of dictators who want to take over the world.

@Marcyaz Yes, I think so. My 6yo son asked me recently why there were wars when I was telling him some stories, it's hard for me to explain as I really do not know why people want to start the war. I told my son it's because someone wants to grab something from another person, such as conquer the other person's kingdom.

@Marcyaz It makes you wonder how many families have gone to their graves never knowing what happened to their loved ones.

@Marcyaz There was definitely no freedom of speech - one really had to watch what they said or did.
