Idiomatic Saying - A Walk Of Life

This is more puzzling to me than most idiomatic sayings. It refers to the way someone lives their life. A street-sweeper may dream of professional football as a different walk of life, with greater affluence and a richer circle of friends, champagne instead of beer, celebrity status, etc.
The phrase assumes a life can be summarized as a singular path. My life and lifestyle crosses many walks, the writer’s way, the working (and often unemployed) class guy from a semi-middle-class family background way, the drinker, the thinker, the traveller, the performance poet.
My life isn’t always a walk. Sometimes it is a run or a sit down in a static resting position.
We tend to see walks of life as idealized – the fun bits, the excitement and glamour. No one wants the walk of life of the desperately hungry, or lonely & poverty stricken.
Youtube – Walk Of Life by Dire Straits – a band clearly not in Dire Straits as a way or walk of life at all.

I suppose that's why they say we have different walks of life. In the literal sense, only a small few get a walk at life. Life seems to travel at variable speeds, so maybe walk is the average. Figuratively, it makes sense that we would have different walks of life considering one guy might be on run, whilst another is on frozen.

I usually feel a little sad coming home especially if it means a good day or night out is over
