That could have gotten expensive

Another's post about a washer in need of repair reminded me of something that happened to us a few months ago.
My husband is not mechanically inclined one bit, so as soon as something starts acting up, he starts whining about costs to replace or repair something. One evening he noticed our dryer was running, but not heating. I had to listen to him complain, and I said I would dig up the manual and see if there was anything I could do the next day.
I started with the easy stuff. Cleaned out the vent(the entire tubing, from the back of the dryer to the wall), cleaned out where the lint trap sits, and I checked the fuses. I even replaced on of them with the one that was left over from the last time I had to replace a fuse for the dryer(that time it just plain didn't even run!).
After not being able to rectify the problem, my husband enlisted a co-worker to come and see if he could figure it out. We spent 2 hours taking it apart that evening and couldn't get it to work. He said he had an extra and we could use it, so they made arrangements to bring it to us the next evening.
The other dryer didn't work when plugged in either. I was frustrated, thinking we would need a service call and repair or even to just replace it.
Then they decided to check the fuses again. Apparently the one I had replaced was a dud. We did laugh about it, and I told them they could blame it on me.

Well, I grew up being taught that you fix (or at least attempt to fix) something before replacing it. I am not the most technically inclined, but I know enough that I don't stress over every little thing.

Yes it is! Especially since we had to move the washer out of the way as well.
