$7 pay per hour

Sometimes I wonder how the lower income group manages to survive. Many of them are in jobs that make just $7 pay per hour. If you think that is a good rate, you should think about the cost of home ownership here. The price of a small apartment in the open market cost about a third of a million dollars. Even if you rent just a small room, you are going to pay more than $700. At the rate of earning just $7 pay per hour, you will make just $280 per week. That is not enough for a single room rental. The disposable income is lower than $280, since there are mandatory deductions. The actual income is about $200. That is why I find it amazing that some of them still manage to save up a decent sum of money.

It is possible to live with less. and still save money. I think when we really want to save money, and we are not making a lot, we can do without TV, computer, air-conditioner, and eating out.

It has to be friends and family getting them through, A tiny few may have inherited a place to live and that would the only other way I can see. I think that is why so much hate talk about poor people taking advantage of the system. Never got that. It sounds more like the system is taking advantage of most working people even if you do make a good income. Most likely you are helping family members not making a good income.

Over here, the public apartments are on lease hold. There is practically no way for anyone to pass on a house for generations after generations. I think those who manage to inherit freehold properties are very fortunate. We do not have much of those.

It is almost as bad here in the U.S. In Minnesota the minimum wage is somewhere around $9, but a studio apartment in the city costs over $675 a month plus utilities. A lot of people have to work several jobs to make ends meet, which is very sad!

That's a very small rate to live by. They must have another job if that's the case

Surprising that one can live on such a small salary.

I have no idea too. i think for us here in Singapore, not having winter helps. When everyday is hot and humid, there is no need to keep so many clothings for different season. But then, life is still tough.
