Quit job to travel the world

When a young person quits his job to travel the world, we likely give him our blessings. We wish that we can do so. The problem comes when a person with family obligation just quits job and travels the world. It does not seem right to quit a job that pays for the living expenses of his family just because he wants to travel the world. Somehow we have the idea that the best time to travel the world is when you are retired, and have the time and money to do so. The world is changing now, and sometimes a working person with family really has to quit the corporate world for a while. If he does not do so, he will suffer from burnout.

I read this news and it comes from a Chinese teacher in my country. In fact I don't think it is a good idea for her to quit the job to travel around the world. As teacher is already a nice job which provides good and stable salary with two long vacations. She can have a travel in either summer or winter vacation. If she quit the job, where does she get money to travel around the job? Travel can be costly. And even it is hard for her to apply for the visa to go to developed countries.

@scheng1 Today in China the teachers in big cities have good salary and benefits. It is very stable and you can be a teacher until you are retired.

If she goes there, and find job, that is a different story. i do think that teaching is a very stable and secure job, on top of good salary. It really is stupid to quit such a job and go travelling.

I think it is different and more enjoyable when you can go with your family. Work is always stressful even when you have a chance to travel. Some of my friends are hardly home because they travel regionally all the time, and some of them just have to get out of the country to relax.

Many young people take the opportunity to travel when they are still single...

Young people should travel to widen their perspective. if they have a job, then they can travel when they are taking vacation leave. They should not just quit the job, and travel for half a year or a year.

This is a difficult one, it is about balancing the needs of a family with the needs of an individual.
