Starting my new job tomorrow

United Kingdom

So tomorrow is the big day, I start my new job. I am really really nervous, I am normally nervous before doing anything new but I am more so than normal today. I think it is because it is a civil service job and it's the first job I have had where there is a good chance of progression which and it would be really good for our family if I do well in the job and work my way up. I need to make sure I do really well but I am worried that being nervous may hinder me. Do you get nervous about new things? How do you combat your nerve in order to do well ?

I have been on my current job for 14 years, but I have been out for the past three weeks due to a recent surgery. Even though I have been there for so long, I am really nervous about going back to work tomorrow!

Good luck I'm sure you'll be just fine . But I understand what you mean it is crazy how such a small break can throw you off. When I went back after maternity I genuinely though I wouldn't be able to do it anymore x

@shellyjaneo I just know there's going to be a huge pile of paperwork sitting on my desk waiting for me to address when I get back. Really not looking forward to that! And good luck with the start of your new job tomorrow! You'll do just fine!

@moffittjc I had a week off from my last job a few weeks back and it took me two days to catch up with the mess that was left for me so I totally sympathise, I'm sure you'll get through it soon enough x

Just take deep breaths, it does help a lot. I'm sure you'll be okay, it is only normal to be nervous on the first day.

I hope so I really have a feeling this could be the start of a proper career but I don't want to get my hopes up too much. I guess that's why I'm so nervous there is a lot riding on it x

I think that's only natural. But remember they want you so relax and get on with showing them why you got the job.
