My mum's birthday is in December. She does not say that she wants birthday present, but when we give her something, she will tell all her friends. I am not one to buy a gift. I always give cash. I always put the money in red packet for good luck, and the sum of money always ends with 8. 8 is a lucky number for the Chinese, and giving $268 is better than giving $300.

Sometimes it is hard to buy gifts, so we give money. It is more practical, and since her birthday is at the end of the year, there will be many sales for her to buy things.

All of us have decided to give her cash. In the end, she collects more than a thousand dollars. I think she is very happy to receive the money, since she can spread out her spending, and she can buy new clothes for Chinese New Year.

I hope your mother will have a happy birthday. Money is a very practical gift. In China, it is fine to give cash for birthdays, marriage and so on. Your mom can buy whatever she likes.

Yes, we are Chinese too, though we are not mainland Chinese. As a result, the culture of giving cash and encouraging savings start from young.

Happy Early Birthday to your mom. My parents are the exact same when it comes to birthdays, or even holiday - they don't want any gifts and don't accept it. Money is a good gift though because she can buy something she wants.

That is good to hear. It saves you all a lot of headache. At least you do not have to spend time buying gifts, and find that they do not like the gifts. Money is always useful to our parents.
